Welcome to the Duocaeli's Plotting Post for OFFline world AUs! Rather than doing monthly installments to play with this optional mechanic, we've decided to use this permanently installed post for players to come in and engage with our AU mechanic as they please.
How does the AU mechanic work?
Upon arriving in the OFF world of Crane City, characters will find themselves encountering NPC residents and others who react to them as familiar citizens, friends, and family. While not necessary, there is an optional mechanic for characters to also suddenly regain memories of a life they had in Crane City, whether it be an entire lifetime or as someone who moved in and took up residence later on. However, all characters will intrinsically know that the Alternative Universe memories they have of the OFF world aren't their real memories.
In addition, while characters may have OFFline friends or family resemble canon characters that can be apped, they must also retain some differences. This is to allow for creative freedom for characters being apped in.
OOCly, Duocaeli puts a focus on canon personalities and histories of characters, but we wanted to have the optional AU mechanic for those who wanted to play with it! If you don't want to opt in, there is no requirement to have a top-level or entry in this page. If you would like to engage, please follow our example for organization's sake.
This AU Plotting Post will be linked on every monthly mod post as a reminder for those who would like to engage in the optional AU mechanic.

Looking For: Are there any particular kinds of AU CR that you'd like for your character? Childhood friends? Bitter academic rivals? It may also help to include your character's attitude on the AU memories - do they find them confusing and want to embrace them? Or will they ignore them to the best of their ability?
While not necessary, mods also encourage having a FROZEN "Notes" comment reply to your own top-level that lets you edit and include new AU details as you plot!

RIN TOHSAKA
Canon: Fate/Stay Night
AU Occupation: by day: college student / by night: crime heiress
AU Background:
✧ similar to her f/sn background, rin comes off as a fairly stand-offish, peerless, perfect honor student who does everything right and has wide range of talents
✧ but a little digging on her background will reveal that she's an orphaned child of a prominent and now very dead crime lord in the Batata District
✧ so rin walks the line of having a decent moral compass because she lost her parents before she could become more ruthless, but also believes that she should still be some level of cold and terrible and wouldn't be surprised if people judge her for her family history if they find it
✧ she's currently in her revenge era, and is biding her time and resources so that she can figure out who killed her mother and father and then back at them, whatever that looks like (she hasn't decided what it looks like)
✧ but other than that she's such an approachable young lady! she's charming if prone to teasing, and very polite though she is still used to getting close to people
✧ she's the captain of the baseball club this is important everyone play baseball with rin
✧ she's also an only child :) now that's fucked up!
Looking For:
✧ i actually think closer relationships (friends, maybe one trusted childhood friend, sibling-ish things) would be nice to explore with rin because in canon she doesn't let herself have any
✧ people who are also in slightly more criminal/shady dealings would be fun, if only because she would be trying to get information out of them and also build relationships for sketchy things
✧ if someone wants to act as her Archer stand-in as a type of confidant/attendant/right hand then i think that'd be sweet.... Master and Servant-adjacent vibes
✧ baseball team! let's fucking play ball! even if rin just roped you into it for fun!!
✧ exes are always hilarious, though rin is more likely to find herself in situationships because she would struggle to confirm (bad at Defining the Relationship)
✧ did you kill her dad? were you part of killing her parents? i just think this would be a fun AU to have to unpack and deal with especially if the relationship is otherwise amiable and good.... betrayal arc built right in
✧ she's always nicer to girls so i think that she should have a lot of girl friends and girlfriends you know what i'm saying
✦ as for how she feels about the AU, the funny thing about fate/ is that rin can very easily accept the existence of parallel universes. so she does think that this could possibly be true! she'll be a little confused and embarrassed by it, but be more likely to believe it's even a little possible than the average person

AU ruby would have been so miserable about rin leaving her behind in Rich People Hell but was too cynical and anxious and self-loathing to reach out on her own and try to continue the relationship so she just resigned herself to it..... real ruby realising she has new abandonment issues on top of all her existing ones and just being like yeah that seems about right

but also yea this is funny let's do it. rin just isn't in touch with her emotions enough and would figure that it's better for ruby to be left in Rich People Hell rather than clawing her way through Actually Poor People Hell Ain't Great Either.... we love miscommunication and fizzled out friendships because girls can't talk (we will make them Talk)

I think Denji only joined because Rin is a cute assertive girl and probably doesn't have a, like, great grasp of the rules even now but he's got spirit

except it's not. and the journey to that discovery sounds like it could be comedy gold.
bonus points for him actually being able to navigate the proper channels in batata district because of how often he actually has to get his hands dirty to protect himself from assassins. also he makes really good ramen.

but yes. 100%. let's do this. there is so much potential here and i don't know where to start - but an archer stand-in is always 100% welcome in my books. partially because rin needs to eat and while she can cook, she always prefers someone else do it for her.
do you want to say that this is a recent run-in that they've had (idk within the past year) or that it's one of those things where their families knew each other for much longer

okay bet, i have absolutely no idea where to start either, but at the very least kaito can nag rin to eat properly (he already plays mom friend for most everyone he gets involved with.... complete with food.......)
i think it'd be most hilarious if the tohsaka and nagano families were like, peripherally aware of each other but rin's family always thought kaito's was just some two bit gang but SUDDENLY KAITO RUNS THE ENTIRE BATATA DISTRICT...'s noodle operations.
once again, no one can possibly fathom that these idiots are really just peddling ramen noodles it has to be a cover up for something much more malicious and so the nagano family's reputation is completely overblown and nobody is correcting anyone else about it
for rin and kaito specifically, they could have just started socializing with each other properly over the last year, rin thought kaito was sussy baka af but then she got a taste of that naganoodle and now idk maybe she's begrudgingly hooked to the ramen, maximum tsuntsun potential with no deres in sight?
