The character's AU family does not live with them in the Dodo House! They'll live outside in Crane City - only PCs can access Dodo House. As far as living elsewhere, it can be hard to manage to get the rent together for an entire separate living space away from Dodo, but in a few months (probably at least 3) characters can get settled enough to rent a separate space like an office or hideout or what-have-you in addition to their free housing at Dodo.
